About LCPDFR
The LCPD First
Response (LCPDFR) Mod, is a modification for the PC version of Grand
Theft Auto IV (and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City).
LCPDFR turns the entire concept of GTA titles upside down, and puts the
player on the other side of the thin blue line - arresting crooks, not
working for them.
Put simply, LCPDFR builds upon the core
gameplay of GTA IV to offer a whole bunch of new features, such as the
ability to arrest, detain or search anyone, as well as the ability to
pull over vehicles, get into high speed chases and respond to calls.
It was created by Sam in August 2009, originally posted on GTAForums.
History of LCPDFR
At the beginning of
July 2009, I came up with the idea of filming some sort of COPS TV show
style series set in Liberty City and recorded in GTA IV. Obviously,
this turned out to be no easy task with a lack of tools available to do
anything other than shoot up a bunch of bad guys. Never the less, using
the default Vigilante police computer missions and the Player Selector
mod, I would change model to the police one, spawn a cop bodyguard and
respond to the calls. This did, however, get a little bit too
repetitive, unrealistic and boring for me to make any real series of it
as every video was basically just a 'drive here, kill this guy' sort of
set up. After searching for a few more mods to try to help with the
filming and provide more variety, I stumbled across the .Net Scripthook
for GTA IV by HazardX. I took a quick look at some of the example
scripts, and using my very limited, school taught knowledge of VB.net,
began making some simple changes. After a few days of playing around
with the Scripthook, I managed to make some very simple things of my own
such as a keybind(ALT +B) to call for backup. This was something which
was really crucial to the entire series as without any method of
attaining backup, things were just even more repetitive and unrealistic.
So, using some rather simple and buggy code, I just created a police
car, put 2 cops inside it, and had it drive to my location. This was, I
guess, what motivated me to keep on developing this simple filming
script. Calling in backup was now done, and I could simply press a key
and have a car respond, rather than having to dial 911 which was much,
much better. Looking at what I had done with the backup key, I then
added another keybind, ALT + P, which set my model to be the cop one,
gave me a glock and spawned a police car for me.
This process of realising the potential of scripting in GTA IV continued
to reiterate, with me discovering something else, and adding it in,
such as the ALT + H keybind, which at first was merely a way of making
the player and the closest ped synchronise the cuffing animation. After
another couple of days, I had added quite a few things into the mod,
including frisking, arresting, helicopter backup (which was largely
taken from an open source trainer), and normal backup. I had a quick
look at GTAForums again, and I saw that there was an active discussion
going on, in a taxi mod thread, about how cool a police mod for the game
would be. I suppose this is what inspired LCPDFR, as being a cop in a
GTA game is something that I had always wanted to do, so I went about
adding in a few more things to the script I had. A few days after this,
on August 5th 2009, LCPDFR was born.
